The Universe of Ouranos
The world of Ouranos was a dream conceived by four deities, but brought to life by one; Athana, who would later be named the Goddess of Life. Her sister, Thana, became the Goddess of Death and was responsible for the natural departure of all living things. The vast lands were watched over by the God of Dark, Nylos, and the God of Light, Solos, so that at all at least one of them was watching over Ouranos. The realm was filled with flora and fauna of all varieties so that life bloomed and thrived in every corner. Beneath it all an undercurrent of magic hummed, fueling creation and life.
Because there was much to do during the First Days, and because the deities wished for someone other than themselves to enjoy their creation, Athana brought several races to life to help them achieve their goals. The first was the Dwarves. They were stout and industrious with natural penchant for all the creative disciplines, but they were particularly skilled engineers. They helped Athana with the creation of the towns and cities the other races would later inhabit, including the foundation for Kheiron.
The next race created was the Elves to help with the living things of Ouranos. They were divided between Solos and Nylos, who remained their patrons even after the First Days. The Dawn Elves serve Solos and are the caretakers of the flora of Ouranos. Gifted cultivators and apothecaries, their skill is evident in the lush growth that covers most of the land. The Dusk Elves are revered by their God, Nylos, and are the custodians of the animals that roam the world. They feel most comfortable under the stars and have a special kinship with all sorts of creatures, both wild and domesticated.
Humans were the third race to join those walking Ouranos. They served as a bridge between the Dwarves and Elves. They were both reclusive in their own way, focused on their pursuits and the tasks set to them by their patron deities. The Humans were natural explorers and roamers, making them ideal for the travel required to keep all the various clans, families and communities in touch with the others. An unintended result of their long journeys and many experiences was that they became ardent scholars and mages. They were the first to learn how to tap into the magic lifeblood of Ouranos and began to teach others.
Other races were created, including the Orcs who were offered a chair at the council of the Governing Races, but declined, preferring their nomadic lifestyle and the freedom it gave them. A race of unscrupulous creatures called Gremlins were also created, but no one knows which deity brought them into Ouranos. The other races assume that whichever god or goddess it was is too embarrassed by the thieving, mischievous little trouble-makers to claim them.
