The City of Kheiron
Humans were the third race to join those walking Ouranos. They served as a bridge between the Dwarves and Elves. They were both reclusive in their own way, focused on their pursuits and the tasks set to them by their patron deities. The Humans were natural explorers and roamers, making them ideal for the travel required to keep all the various clans, families and communities in touch with the others. An unintended result of their long journeys and many experiences was that they became ardent scholars and mages. They were the first to learn how to tap into the magic lifeblood of Ouranos and began to teach others.
They began to compile the knowledge and events of the places and peoples they visited. A small settlement called Kheiron became their central meeting point. A sort of way station where anyone, not just Humans, could come together. It lay against a sheltered harbor and at the base of a river, making it easily accessible by land and sea. The mountains favored by the Dwarves and the forests favored by the Elves were both within a day’s walk. The Dwarves built a grand tower in the center of the growing community and it was named The Library of Thrasos.
The Dwarves also built four smaller towers around the Library, one for each of what became the Governing Races, all of them connected by elegant skybridges of arching stone and colorful stained glass. For their own palace, they chose a spartan and industrial design with carved stone and wrought iron fashioned by the most skilled among them. The Dawn Elves created gardens on every balcony, making their tower a lush, flowing fountain of greenery. The Dusk Elves capped their palace with a grand observatory to study the night sky. The Humans filled theirs with art and books. But despite their divergence, each was still connected to the Library of Thrasos and, therefore, each other.
